I was eighteen the summer it happened, fresh out of high school and still living at home while my best friend Marcus crashed on our couch for a few weeks before his dorm opened. We had known each other since middle school, but something shifted that July when the house was empty during the day and the heat pressed in like a secret.
One afternoon we were in my room, door closed against the quiet, scrolling through our phones on the bed. The conversation turned to girls we had never really dated, then to the things we had never said out loud. Marcus admitted he had wondered what it would feel like with another guy. I told him I had too. The words hung there, heavy and electric.
Neither of us laughed. Instead we moved closer, knees touching first, then shoulders. His hand found mine and stayed. I remember the way his thumb traced my palm, slow and uncertain, until I turned my hand over and laced our fingers together. The kiss started awkward, both of us leaning in at the same time, noses bumping, but the second one landed softer. His lips were fuller than I expected, warm, and when his tongue brushed mine I felt the jolt all the way down.
We undressed without speaking much, just the rustle of shirts and the snap of waistbands. Marcuss body was lean from summer swim practice, smooth chest, a faint trail of hair leading down. I was the same, nervous and already hard. We lay side by side at first, exploring with hands that shook a little. I wrapped my fingers around him and felt him pulse, thick and hot. He did the same to me, grip tentative until I showed him the rhythm I liked by moving against his palm.
When he asked if I wanted to go further, I nodded. We used the lotion from my nightstand, clumsy at first as he worked one finger inside me, then two, stretching slowly while I breathed through the burn and the strange fullness. The pressure turned into something hotter, deeper, when he found the right angle. I reached for him, guiding him between my legs, and he pushed in carefully, stopping when I gasped, waiting until I nodded again.
The first full thrust made my vision blur. He was gentle, rocking his hips in small movements while I adjusted around him. Sweat gathered between us.

I wrapped my legs around his waist and pulled him deeper, the friction building with every stroke. Marcuss breath came ragged against my neck; he whispered my name like a question and I answered with a moan. We changed positions once, me on top, sinking down onto him while he held my hips and watched my face. The new angle hit something inside that made my thighs tremble.
We finished almost together, me stroking myself while he thrust up, the release hitting hard and sudden, streaking across his stomach. He followed seconds later, pulsing deep inside the condom, face buried against my shoulder. Afterward we stayed tangled, breathing hard, the room smelling like skin and lotion and us.
We didnt talk much right away. We just held each other, tracing lazy lines on damp skin until the light outside began to fade. Later we showered together, laughing quietly when the soap made everything slippery again, touching without hurry this time. That night we slept in the same bed, legs hooked together, the start of something we both knew we would keep exploring.
In the weeks that followed we learned more, what each of us liked, how to move together without words, the difference between quick and frantic and slow and deep. It was never just sex after that first time; it was the way we looked at each other across a room, the private smiles, the knowledge that we had crossed a line together and neither of us wanted to go back. By the end of summer we were already making plans for the fall, promising to find ways to be alone again. The memory of that afternoon stayed with me, the heat, the nerves, the way everything changed in the space of a single careful thrust.
